We believe that it is important to have a place where church members can meet together and participate in a smaller, more relaxed setting than a normal church service allows. Small groups meet most weeks, usually in homes and are intended to provide a place for people to share their lives with one another and grow in faith together.
We encourage all committed members of St. Matthew's to be involved in a small group.
Why join a small group?
Get to know others
The greatest benefit is the close friendships that can develop. In small groups, you soon discover that we are all in the same boat, facing difficulties and deepening our faith together.
Get to know God
In a small group, you can ask questions, participate in discussions, hear and share insights with others on the same spiritual journey. We need to apply God's principles to our personal situations and this happens best in small groups.
Give and receive support
Small groups provide excellent support in times of need, change, crisis or stress. A group of people who can pray with you and stand by you are invaluable. The Vicar cannot be everywhere at once and the Bible makes clear we are to care and pray for one another.
Use your gifts
God has given us all gifts and abilities that are meant to be used to benefit others. In a small group, we can learn and use the gifts that God has given us. It helps us to grow in our faith, be a blessing to others and help build the church.
Play your part
At St. Matthew's, we see our small groups as the basic building blocks of church life. All that we do as a church needs to be built on this foundation. We believe God's church at St. Matthew's will only grow as all of its members participate in small groups and they build up our church life.
