Our Faith

We believe that life is meant to be lived in relationship with Jesus Christ. In common with other Christians and other churches, we seek to deepen that relationship and to follow the way that Jesus taught.

St. Matthew's is a part of the Church of England and we share the basics of our faith with the Anglican church worldwide. People often point to something called "The 39 Articles" as the basis of Anglicanism. The 39 Articles of Religion were published in The Book of Common Prayer and set out the basis of Anglican faith and belief for several hundred years.

The 39 Articles are quite traditional in their language and you may find them hard to read in the link that we have provided to the Prayer Book Society's website above. As a result, we have summarised some of the main points for you here:

  • We believe in one God - Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
  • We believe that the Bible contains everything we need in order to have a relationship with God and live as God would intend.
  • We understand the Nicene creed as the sufficient statement of the Christian faith.

St. Matthew's are part of the New Wine Network and feel confident in sharing their vision and values with their emphasis on worship, teaching and ministry in the power of the Holy Spirit.

St. Matthew's are a member church of the Evangelical Alliance and the local fellowship of evangelical churches.
